Wilma D. Flood English and Literacy Fund

FLOOD

  The Wilma Dean Flood English and Literacy Fund has been established in celebration of Wilma Flood, a beloved educator at Elizabeth City High School and Northeastern High School for more than 40 years.  Her love of literature and learning impacted the lives of countless students.  The fund will offer financial support through innovative grant opportunities for English and Literacy Pre-K through 12th grade teachers.

 

James R. & Grace Gray Fund

  This history/social studies fund was established in 2003 in memory of Mr. James R. Gray, an outstanding and dedicated educator in the Elizabeth City – Pasquotank Public School system for 30 years.  ECPPS alumni helped initiate this fund in memory of Gray, one of their favorite educators. Each year a innovative grant is offered from the fund supporting a creative classroom project in the subjects of social studies or history.

 

Francine Jones Sanders Fund

  This middle school math and science fund was established in 2006 by family, friends and fellow educators in the memory of Francine Jones Sanders, an outstanding and dedicated retired educator.  Each year an innovative grant is offered to support creative classroom projects at Elizabeth City and River Road Middle Schools in the subjects of math or science.

 

Martha Ann Ward Swain Innovative Grants

  The Swain Innovative Grants were established in 1993 to provide funding for creative and innovation classroom instruction. Initially known as a “mini-grant” program,in 2007 it was named in honor of Swain, a founding Foundation board member, after her passing. The Foundation provides $6,000 in funding each fall that is available, by a competitive selection process, to all schools in the district.   • D.R.U.M. Community(Discipline, Respect, and Unity through Music) Renee Lease, Weeksville Elementary School
  • How to Play Guitar for Fifth Grade Enrichment Studies Lynette Smith, Northside Elementary School
  • Circle of Life: Metamorphosis and More! Tammy Campbell, Northside Elementary School

Each spring, grant awardees are invited to display and present their projects to the board of directors, sponsors, local elected officials and other guests.  In addition, middle and high school AVID students are invited to make presentations to attendees.
